Yesterday I took part again in a traditional Irish music session. I love it!! 🎵🎉
In Galway, every day you can find tons of pubs with live Irish music. It’s amazing, usually improvised groups playing traditional songs. That means anyone can join with their instrument and take part. And of course, I’m not going to miss the chance 🙈
This video I’m sharing with you is from a session I joined yesterday afternoon called “Slow Irish Trad” in a Galway pub. The concept is awesome! It’s full sessions of Irish music played a bit slower so people can get into the genre and learn how to play the songs. We spent a bit more than two hours, and the instructor Ryan is fantastic. He gives you the sheet music, explains how everything works, and the songs are repeated several times 🎵
And I say the concept is wonderful not only because it helps you learn, but also because it’s free entry, giving anyone interested in music the chance to dive right into Irish culture. It’s also great if you’re starting a second instrument and want to play with people in a real context. Simply amazing. ☺️
Personally, I feel really good every time I go, the people are super kind, help with everything, and create a warm and empowering atmosphere. Little by little I’m learning more and more songs, I love it! 🔥
Maybe in another life I was Irish, but I feel super connected with this style of music, with this culture, and with these calm and respectful people I live with daily in this beautiful city called Galway.
