What a night yesterday! I took part in two Irish music sessions, the second one with more than 25 musicians at the legendary ‘The Crane’ in Galway. Let me tell you! 🔥🎉
First, I went with the group I usually attend to learn Irish music. It was fantastic, and I met some amazing musicians I hadn’t run into before. It’s an intimate session, and this time it was in a really cozy room I hadn’t known. By the way, a guitar string broke on me and I spent half the session playing with one string less 😂
When that ended, a couple of friends were going to play at one of Galway’s most TOP traditional pubs: The Crane. For me, playing at The Crane was something unreachable. But I decided to join them and check out the vibe, which turned out to be spectacular with more than 25 musicians 😱. After watching a couple of songs, I took a deep breath, grabbed my 5-string guitar, and enjoyed playing those beautiful songs like the kid I am and always will be. For the first time, I joined an open Irish music session! 🎵
And I want to tell you there were a lot of doubts my mind kept repeating constantly: I don’t know the songs, I don’t have sheet music, my guitar is missing a string, I’m not going to play at The Crane, there are too many musicians… blah blah blah. You’ll face this every time you take on a new challenge. Your brain doesn’t want you to move forward and always imagines the worst possible scenario. It only wants your survival, and of course, you have a better chance of surviving in a safe zone. Believe me when I say those shitty warnings that little voice tells you almost never come true, and even if they did, it doesn’t matter. We have to stop surviving and get used to living.
So there I was, with my 5-string guitar, playing and enjoying intensely. What a beautiful path I’m walking here in Ireland. So much better than I dreamed every day just a few months ago ❤️
